Thank you for putting your confidence in me as one of your representatives on the City Council. I will do my best to consider the issues before the council with regard to what is best for each situation as well as what is best for the long-term vision for the city. Feel free to contact me throughout my term on the city council (2017-2020) by writing to me here: CONTACT BRIAN.
Candidate Statement
I was drawn to the Corcoran community by the desire to serve those around us. This community is an appealing mix of agricultural and growing suburban developments. We are surrounded by cities that are growing rapidly and as our population grows, infrastructure expansion has now become a primary concern. In talking with residents around this city, it is clear that there are those that want to maintain the rural landscape we love and those that wish to see Corcoran grow to accommodate increased commerce, development and housing. I do not see this as an either/or discussion, but a balance of wise choices allowing for both.
I feel it is the role of city government to set a vision for the future, but to be vigilant about listening to, and working with, the current residents who have invested their time, their resources, and have raised their families here. With growth can come positive contributions such as increased revenue allowing for improvements and increased conveniences. Yet these must not supersede the will and desires of our current residents. The government is here to serve its people, not the other way around.
The prior and current councils, commissions, and city staff have done a lot of difficult work in preparing a longer term budget, a zoning and development plan, and bringing water and sewer expansion to our city. I want to thank them for their hard work and dedicated service to our city. We have a responsibility to continue this hard work, update it as inevitable changes occur, and to encourage responsible developers to accept the challenges of making these plans a reality. All of this must be done with fiscal responsibility and an ear toward how the changes are impacting our quality of life.
As I look ahead toward the next few years, my vision for Corcoran is one of solidifying a wise and fiscally sound development plan and addressing the needs of our current residents. There are scores of communities that have gone before us in navigating these challenges and I am confident there are solutions available to what we are facing. To that end, I am committed to exploring the options available to us and determining the best solutions for Corcoran. We have a need for increased revenue, housing, and senior living options for those who want to call this home for years to come. We need to further update and improve our downtown, allowing for commercial investment. And we need to secure places of peace and respite so that our green space and parks are protected and preserved.
Corcoran is a place where common courtesy, faith, ambition, and hard work have been passed on from generation to generation. It is a great place to live. My service to you, the people of Corcoran, is offered with those same values and determination. I would be pleased to serve you.
